Worst Best Comic Ever: Most Extreme Occupation Challenge
Listen everyone. I really want to support the Occupy Wall Street protests. I really REALLY want to. But until I see this angst turn into actual action, more action than pitching tents in a downtown park, I can't get behind it. Getting angry is easy. Working for a solution is hard. Demanding utopia is unreasonable. OWS has been likened to the civil rights movement and the Vietnam war protests, but both of them had specific demands that politicians could, and eventually did, meet. My kingdom... I mean Queendom?... for some pragmatism.

The Man is bad for buying politicians to do his bidding and rigging the entire system to his benefit. Makes sense. But, the protestor is bad for not voting for politicians who have already been bought? What's the sense in that? Do you really think a corrupt system can be changed when the oppressed play by the system's rules?
ReplyDeleteVoting cannot hurt. In fact, as you can see with the Tea Party, even bat shit insane policy decisions can be prompted by a bloc of voters that threaten to cast out the establishment. We have enough power to at least make the politicians fear for their jobs. It is the power we have, and it is the power we need to leverage.
ReplyDeleteWhat is our other choice? Pitchforks and torches?
