Illustrator is easier than Photoshop to work with, once you learn how it works. I called Adobe to see if they would give a student discount to a starving artist. They not only denied me, the salesman actually questioned my commitment to my craft by saying "You've got to spend money to make money." $1800 for software is ridiculous when they are willing to sell it for $450. Well Adobe, I found CS5 Web Premium online for $550. SUCK IT!
